This page is about verifying a factory in Guangzhou: establishing what is at a given address, and who the company behind it is. We are based in Panyu District, so a visit here is ordinary work for us. The most useful thing a visit settles is the difference between making and selling. Guangzhou has both, often a few kilometres apart, and an address on a contract will not tell you which one you are dealing with.
Districts that make, districts that only trade
Guangzhou is not one manufacturing city. It is a group of districts and towns, each with its own trade, and the differences between them matter more than the city name on a contract.
Shiling, a town inside Huadu District in the north, is leather goods: bags, belts and small leather items, with workshops spread through the town rather than in one estate. Huadu more broadly is where leather and bag making sits. Zengcheng, to the east, is denim and garments, and Xintang inside Zengcheng is the denim town. Panyu, our own district, runs garments and jewellery. Baiyun, north of the centre, is cosmetics and beauty, from filling lines to packaging. Nansha, in the far south, is where finished goods meet the port.
Now the other half of the city. Haizhu is textiles trading: the fabric, trimming and accessory markets there supply factories across the province, and trading is the business. Liwan is wholesale, with garment, shoe and leather markets around the old station area and Shisanhang. Tianhe and Yuexiu are office districts: towers, showrooms, sales teams, and companies whose goods are made somewhere else entirely.
That distinction is the heart of this service. A trading district can hold a factory, and a manufacturing town can hold an office that sells. The district tells you where to look; it does not tell you what your supplier is. Shiling and Xintang tell you that bags and denim are made nearby, not that the company you are paying runs the line. Only a visit to that address answers that.
What we verify on a Guangzhou visit
A verification in Guangzhou works through five things.
The legal entity. We ask for the business licence at the site and check the registered name, the credit code, the registered address and the business scope against the public company register. Anyone can print a licence; the register entry is the part that has to match.
The site. Is this a factory or a trading office? We look at the building, the gate, the production halls, the equipment and who is standing at it. A factory here usually sits in an industrial park or a village industrial zone in Baiyun, Huadu, Zengcheng, Panyu or Nansha; a trading company sits in an office tower or a market building.
Production running. Not a hall with machines in it, but machines being used: material in, work in progress, people at the stations, and equipment that matches the product you are buying.
Packing and dispatch. Where finished goods are packed, what the cartons and shipping marks say, how they are palletised and loaded, and whether the site handles its own export packing.
The sample. If the supplier says they made your sample, we ask to see it on site, along with the pattern, mould or tooling behind it, and compare it with what is running on the floor.
The walk-through takes an hour or two. We photograph the entrance with the street and the company name, record the halls and packing area, film unedited, and leave with the register extract and copies of the documents we were shown. We do not judge quality or price; we report what is there.
What goes wrong in Guangzhou
None of the patterns below is illegal, and none is unusual here. They are worth knowing before a deposit moves.
An address that is a floor in a tower in Tianhe or Yuexiu, a serviced office, or a flat in a residential block. Registered addresses are pooled and shared in Guangzhou, and office space is normal here, but nothing is made in it. A visit establishes what operates at the address, and where production would actually happen.
A showroom presented as production. The wholesale and trading malls hold well-finished showrooms full of samples. The room is real and the samples are real; the goods are made somewhere else. A visit settles whether there is anything behind the display: raw material, equipment, work in progress, a packing area.
Subcontracting. A supplier may be an honest trading company that passes your order to a factory in another district or another city, which you never see. That can be a perfectly good arrangement, but you should know it is happening. A visit shows who produces and who merely relays.
A rented showroom attached to a trading arm. Polished floors, samples, staff, a meeting room, all convincing, all rented, and none of it evidence of a factory. A visit separates the sales space from the production space, and names the entity that would appear on your contract.
How quickly we can visit
Guangzhou is our home city, and the company is registered in Panyu District, so a verification here is usually carried out within 1 to 2 working days of agreeing the scope, and often sooner at short notice. There is no travel supplement anywhere in Guangzhou, and the fee is US$300 whether the site is ten minutes away or at the far edge of the municipality.
The quickest visits are the central and near districts: Tianhe, Yuexiu, Haizhu, Liwan, Baiyun and Panyu. Huadu, Zengcheng and Nansha take longer to reach, and Conghua, the northernmost district, is the longest drive of all, but every one of them is still Guangzhou, still local, and still included in the fee.
Where the fee applies. Everything within 150 km of our Guangzhou base is included: Guangzhou, Foshan, Dongguan, Shenzhen, Zhongshan and Zhuhai. Beyond that we add a travel supplement, agreed in writing before we set off — Huizhou and Jiangmen +US$100; Yangjiang, Shaoguan and Chaoshan (Shantou, Chaozhou, Jieyang) +US$200. Anywhere else in China is quoted separately. Guangzhou is our base, so no travel supplement applies at all.
Send the supplier's name, address or website to WhatsApp +86 189 2212 3034 or hello@factoryfinding.com. The scope and the exact fee, US$300 for a verification and US$1,000 for factory finding, are agreed in writing before any payment is made.
— common questions
Do you visit factories inside Guangzhou itself, or only outside the city?
Guangzhou is our home city, so we verify sites anywhere in the municipality, from Tianhe and Yuexiu to Huadu, Zengcheng, Nansha and Conghua. There is no travel supplement for Guangzhou. A verification is US$300 per factory, one-time, usually delivered within 1 to 2 working days of agreeing the scope.
My supplier's address is an office tower in Tianhe. Can you still visit?
Yes, and it is one of the most common cases here. We go to the stated address, record what operates there and check the entity against the public register. If the address is an office, the report says so, and says where the goods are made. A visit to that production site is a separate verification at the same US$300.
How quickly can you reach a factory in Zengcheng, Conghua or Nansha?
Quickly. They are districts of Guangzhou, so they are local visits with no travel supplement. Zengcheng and Nansha usually take most of a working day; Conghua, in the far north, is the longest drive in the municipality and may add a day. Tell us the address and we will confirm a date.
Can you call me from the factory during a Guangzhou visit?
Where the factory agrees and the signal allows, yes. We can call you on WhatsApp video from the site while we are there. You receive the photographs, the unedited walk-through video and the written report afterwards in any case, so nothing depends on the call working.
